So it happened! Leslie Knope and Ben Wyatt are having babies! Yes, you read that correctly: BabieS. When they visited the doctor in the most recent episode which aired Thursday, April 17th they got the news from guest star Henry Winkler that they were going to have triplets and of course, they freaked out. Leslie with her normal amount of stress and enough passion for even the Ultimate Warrior to get inspired by, and Ben with his accounting skills and fear of numbers. It was all pretty entertaining to watch. Even Andy kept the secret as long as he could, which was quite a feat.
And right now, we are still getting closer and closer to the deadline of the Unity Concert. Another 'Harvest Festival'-like event that keeps the Parks department on their toes and we as an audience get to see their reac
tions, which are pretty great and constructive. It's also nice to see the newer cast members get more attention and make us laugh every week from our couches.
It goes without saying, Craig is the most interesting person of new cast. Also one of the best people in the office. Craig is played by the high energy Billy Eichner, whose Fuse TV quiz show 'Billy on the Street' has him in the same character and acting around strangers quizzing them on ridiculous topics for money. But there was something interesting in the most recent episode of Parks and Rec. Something that seemed a bit foreshadow-y. And I really hope it happens.
In the very final scene where Ben and Leslie tell the whole office their news, Craig comes in talking about all the work he has completed and how nobody helped him. He has passion that is almost uncomputable to any sane human being and enough energy to keep the whole Sweetums factory open for 1,000 years. And that is just his reaction to a small part of a massive project. So, I pose the question: Is Craig going to become the new Leslie when she leaves for that job offer in Chicago? Will we see the passing of the torch soon to a man who could easily carry the show on his back if the writers give him some more depth into his personality and character? I say yes.
Think about it, Craig loves what he does. He'll do an amazing job no matter the odds. Ron might retire soon because of the girls he is helping raise. Larry might retire too. April and Andy could easily grow up a little more and move out of the Parks Department. Also, Donna met a new man that she could marry and move away with. Tom has the new restaurant. It could all happen. The only thing standing in the way is the maybe the fans.
Die hard fans of TV shows like The Office and the like do not do well with change. It's hard to reason with them that a show could carry on with a different cast than what it started with. The acting can make a show, yes. But it's the writing that makes the acting engine do anything. And these Parks and Rec. writers have done an amazing job with keeping the show fresh and hilarious. To m
ake a sitcom out of happy things is a great thing to see on TV.
So those are my predictions for the future of Pawnee, Indiana. Agree? Disagree? Let me know. I would really like to talk about this more!
